Carl Sandburg College volleyball sophomore Peyton Bowman (Sciota, Ill./West Prairie) can add another repeat award to her trophy case.

Already a two-time Arrowhead Conference Most Valuable Player, Bowman also has been voted by coaches as the Region IV Division II District A Player of the Year for the second straight season, leading three Chargers earning all-region honors.

As one of the region’s top three vote-getters, Bowman will be nominated for All-America consideration. She was honorable mention All-America as a freshman.

Sophomore setter Cora Vyhnanek (Colchester, Ill./West Prairie) joined Bowman on the All-Region IV District A team for the second straight season, and sophomore outside hitter Tearaney Eads (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) also earned an all-region nod. The trio also was named to the All-Arrowhead Conference team earlier this week.

Through Tuesday, Bowman leads the nation with 624 kills (39 more than second place), a .522 hitting percentage (.089 higher than second) and 798½ points (123 more than second). She also ranks third in solo blocks (103), fourth in points per set (5.5), eighth in kills per set (4.27) and ninth in total blocks (148). Bowman has 1,057 kills in her two seasons at Sandburg.

Vyhnanek, Bowman’s high school teammate, ranks fourth in the country with 1,350 assists in Sandburg’s 42 matches, and her 9.18 assists per set are good for 16th nationally. Vyhnanek has recorded 40 assists or more in a match on nine occasions this fall, led by a season-high 47 in the Chargers’ victory over Kirkwood on Oct. 11. She now sits at 2,604 assists in her Sandburg career.

Like Bowman, Eads has been one of the leading hitters in the country, ranking fourth in total attempts (1,459), 13th in kills (446) and 17th in total points (508). She has cracked double-digit kills in 25 of her 37 matches, highlighted by a career-best 24 kills against Mott on Sept. 29.

The Chargers will look to earn their third straight trip to the NJCAA Division II Championship when they play in this weekend’s Region IV District B tournament at Lake County. Sandburg opens with the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Saturday against the host Lancers. The semifinals and finals will be played Sunday, also in Grayslake.
